Frequently Asked Questions

What is HM-4 and what does it do?

It is a substrate. It promotes early root development in plants.

HM-4 is made from coconut fiber from FICO, as you know we have been manufacturers since 2000, so we add blonde peat, worm humus, silica sand for added firmness to the mix, high-quality leonardite, and an organic fertilizer for ecological use.

High aeration and optimal moisture retention, the roots develop very easily. It achieves a relatively easy vegetative-generative balance in the crop, resulting in very strong growth in the early stages.

  • High aeration
  • Improves poor soils
  • Moisture retention
  • Strong root development
  • Good plant development in the first days of life
  • When the plant suffers from stress due to cold, heat, or water stress, HM-4 provides a margin of work as it generates more absorbing root hairs
  • Easy and quick handling

HM-4 substrate can be applied to any type of horticultural crop, and it is also recommended for berry crops, such as blueberries and raspberries.

Between 8-10 days after transplanting, observing very strong roots along with highly developed vegetative growth.

  1. The correct way to apply HM-4 professional substrate starts by opening a hole in the soil of your greenhouse.
  2. Apply HM-4. Between 350 and 400 cubic centimeters of the product is appropriate. The key is to use the amount that fits in your hand with the palm facing down and drop it directly into the previously opened hole, whether it’s in the soil or the pot.
  3. Next, hydrate the soil. This initial moisture helps open the hole where the root ball will be placed.
  4. Once the soil is moistened, open the hole directly above the HM-4.
  5. With the hole prepared, carefully place the root ball into the hole.
  6. Cover everything with a bit of soil.
  7. Hydrate the plant again for proper development.

Because it will improve the structure of your soil… whether it’s sandy soil, waterlogged soil, or soil with salinity problems… HM-4 improves soil aeration, enriches nutrient-poor soils, retains moisture, allowing the plant to better adapt to the soil, resulting in a stronger root. This results in better root establishment and enhanced vegetative capacity, enabling the plant to feed better, improving its first days of life, reducing water or temperature stress, which shows in the plant’s growth, yield, and crop and harvest profitability.
